When will your rink be open?
We'd like to have opened yesterday! But the most important element is of course the safety of the community, funding, and the location. As soon as we can secure a location and can safely open to the public, we'll announce it to everyone. We're as excited as you are to finally have a rink in our community, trust us. As long as we continue to sell skates/apparel, the closer we'll be to opening day. Please share with friends and family, local news stations, or anyone who's willing to listen; the more exposure to this journey, the better!
Please keep in mind that this is not an easy task; there are several moving parts, and even political aspects involved with opening a roller skating rink. It is not the same as opening a restaurant, or any other venue. Also understand that a majority of the funding is coming from skate sales. Think about the costs involved to open and run any business and you'll begin to understand why it's taking a while to reach the goal. We also want this to be a success.
Why don't you carry Riedell products?
Unfortunately, Riedell doesn't allow vendors to sell their products unless they have a brick-and-mortar or physical location. Fortunately, we are looking to open a physical store sometime in 2023, so that we can carry Riedell skates and accessories! We are always looking for more skate brands to expand our inventory, and Riedell is definitely at the top of our list!
Can I come to your store to try on skates?
We currently do not have a brick and mortar because we do not want to absorb the funds that we've raised with leasing costs, but we may have to in 2023 due to our exponential growth, and most roller skate manufacturers require you to have an actual storefront in order to sell their merchandise. In order for us to continue to grow, we'll need to open a storefront. We were hoping that the rink would come first, but we've learned that crawling before "rolling" is necessary.
Currently we meet those who would like to try on their skates in the Ballenger Creek area for fittings, and for local pickups. Please call or email us to schedule your one-on-one fitting.
How do I know what size to get?
The most accurate way to get your size for your skates is going to be to measure your everyday pair of shoes’ insole with measuring tape (from end to end, laid flat) and compare your size measurement to the size chart. Most skates are in men's whole sizes, and we have the women's equivalent listed alongside all of our skates. The sizing is extremely accurate, but if you're unsure, please reach out to us for assistance.
What size bearings do I need for my skates?
Most skate plates have 8mm axles, although some skates (ex: the WIFA) have 7mm axles. It’s best to look at your plate specifications in the description, or in your skate manual.
What wheels work best for indoor/outdoors?
Outdoor wheels generally fall under 78a-90a in hardness. The lower the number, the softer and more grippy the wheel. Indoor wheels tend to be 90a-103a in hardness, as these are much less grippy and slippery, making it easier to do spins and other kinds of tricks and dancing.
Which skate is best for beginners?
This is kind of subjective, as some people prefer a softer boot, some people really like a stiff boot for ankle support. All roller skates serve the same general purpose, just like your shoes, boots, etc. It's about the performance level that you are trying to achieve, and the skating style that you have/want to achieve. With that being said, the best skate for beginners is of course going to be a non-expensive, but quality built skate, and you can always upgrade once you've committed to being a roller skater.
Our most popular and highly recommended choice is the Roller Derby Driftr/Slider, The Candi Girl Carlin, and the Sure Grip Malibu skates. These are less than $150, and are incredibly comfortable, built by quality brands and are stylish without breaking the bank. Suregrip Boardwalks are also great for beginners.
